LAS VEGAS (Nov. 21, 2023) — The American Red Cross of Southern Nevada is participating in Boyd Gaming's ninth annual “Wreaths of Hope” competition, a festive event that combines holiday tradition with charitable giving. As part of the competition, nearly $70,000 will be awarded to Southern Nevada nonprofit organizations.
This year, the Red Cross of Southern Nevada and 37 other nonprofit organizations have decorated wreaths embodying their respective missions. These wreaths are currently on display at eight Boyd Gaming properties in Las Vegas, with the Red Cross wreath featured alongside four others at the Cannery Casino Hotel, located at 2121 E. Craig Rd.
Rachel Flanigan, Executive Director of the American Red Cross, Southern Nevada Chapter, encourages public participation. “Remember, your vote is not just a show of support – it's a contribution to our ongoing mission to prevent and alleviate human suffering in Southern Nevada. Together, we can make this holiday season a time of hope and healing.”
Public invited to vote
Voting is now open until Dec. 15. The public can cast their votes in person at the participating properties, online through Boyd Gaming social media platforms or by visiting BoydGaming.com/Wreaths-of-Hope. Each of the eight Las Vegas properties will award a prize pool of up to $8,500, with a guaranteed minimum cash prize of $1,000 for all participating nonprofit organizations.
“Boyd is incredibly proud of our long-standing partnership with the American Red Cross, and we are honored to have them as participants in this year's Wreaths of Hope,” said David Strow, Boyd’s vice president of corporate communications. “Wreaths of Hope is an opportunity for our company to celebrate the holiday season while supporting worthwhile nonprofit organizations serving our communities across the nation.”
The impact of the Red Cross in Southern Nevada
This year, more than 600 Red Cross of Southern Nevada volunteers have supported disaster relief, blood drives and free safety and preparedness education programs. In 2022, Southern Nevada volunteers and staff responded to more than 300 home fires and helped nearly 1,300 people in our communities. The Red Cross also supports local veterans, active-duty military and their families.
History of Wreaths of Hope & Trees of Hope
The Trees of Hope competition began in 2007 at the Delta Downs Racetrack and Hotel in Louisiana. Since then, the program has expanded nationwide, with Boyd properties awarding more than $1.2 million in cash donations to nonprofit organizations across the country. Last year, over 165 nonprofits participated, with Boyd properties nationwide awarding more than $196,000 to support their missions.
