Mineola, NY – The American Red Cross on Long Island is offering FREE smoke alarm installations for residents of Hempstead, West Hempstead, South Hempstead, Uniondale and Roosevelt during a Sound the Alarm home fire safety event on Wednesday, April 12, 2023.
“A working smoke alarm can be the difference between survival and tragedy when a home fire strikes,” said Jose Dominguez, CEO, American Red Cross on Long Island. “That’s why the Red Cross is teaming up with partners, local officials and others to help ensure local residents, especially those most vulnerable, have these lifesaving devices.”
Residents who would like a smoke alarm installed can register at www.soundthealarm.org/li for a home fire safety visit on Wednesday, April 12, 2023. During the visit, volunteers will also share information on the causes of home fires, how to prevent them, what to do if a fire starts and how to create an escape plan. Red Cross team members will also be in the community in the weeks leading up to the event, to canvass neighborhoods to sign up residents for this opportunity. Please note, all Red Cross volunteers will have official identification and branded clothing or vests.
