Equity in creating Safe, Healthy, and Resilient Communities
The American Red Cross mission is to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of disaster. Recovering from disasters often means overcoming barriers in housing, health, and hunger, which have a disproportionate effect on communities of color and the socially vulnerable. The Resilient Community Project aims to amplify our efforts to prevent and prepare for disasters by working with like-minded organizations whose missions are connected to our work.
The Resilient Community Project will leverage the Red Cross work in preparedness and help bridge racial, ethnic, and minority disparities in housing, health, and hunger for families in local at-risk neighborhoods. As we meet the community with our mission, we witness how vulnerable families are disproportionately affected by these driving factors of poverty. Through collaboration among partners, we will deploy resources to increase local resiliency and serve those needing assistance.
Alongside ongoing support between partners and the community, we are hosting a series of community events in these Greater Cincinnati Tri-State neighborhoods. Families can participate in fun and educational activities, while taking part in onsite opportunities for life-saving trainings, diverse blood supply education, and physical and behavioral health screenings.
