American Red Cross volunteers support residents following an apartment fire on S. Fourth Street in Philadelphia.
Overnight, the American Red Cross and Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management (OEM) opened a shelter for residents displaced by a small fire on an upper floor of the Courtyard Apartments at Riverview on the 1000 block of S. Fourth St. in Philadelphia.
Power to the building was shut off, resulting in the evacuation of around 200 residents. Overnight, 88 of those residents stayed in our shelter, which remains open today at Kensington High School for the Creative and Performing Arts, 1901 N. Front St.
Along with our partners, the Red Cross is providing residents with a safe place to sleep, meals and snacks and support services.
