American Red Cross volunteers support residents at the Kensington High School for the Creative and Performing Arts shelter in Philadelphia.

The American Red Cross and Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management (OEM) opened a shelter for residents displaced by a small fire that occured Monday June 23rd at Courtyard Apartments at Riverview on the 1000 block of S. Fourth St. in Philadelphia. Power to the building was shut off, resulting in the evacuation of around 200 residents.
The shelter, located at Kensington Creative and Performing Arts High School, supported 88 residents overnight Monday, 46 residents overnight Tuesday, 49 residents overnight Wednesday and 46 residents overnight Thursday.
The shelter remains open Friday, June 27 for those impacted. We expect the shelter to remain open throughout the weekend.
Along with our partners, the Red Cross is providing residents with a safe place to sleep, meals and snacks, clothing and support services.
