Para el Capítulo de Puerto Rico de la Cruz Roja Americana, el Día de la Recordación es un evento muy importante y significativo en el que nos unimos a la nación para recordar y honrar las vidas y los sacrificios de los miembros del servicio de los Estados Unidos que han fallecido. Estos valientes hombres y mujeres de las fuerzas armadas de los Estados Unidos hicieron el máximo sacrificio de servicio al país.
En nuestro capítulo, hemos estado involucrados en las actividades que se han llevado a cabo alrededor de la isla en el pasado. Por ejemplo, en el Cementerio Nacional de Puerto Rico ubicado en Bayamón, jóvenes y adultos voluntarios se unieron a nosotros para proveer materiales educativos, marchar en el desfile y ser parte de la presentación de arreglos florales en honor a nuestros héroes caídos. Aún más, en el marco de nuestro 125 aniversario, pudimos compartir historias de voluntarios de la Cruz Roja que habían servido y fallecido durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial.
En el pasado, numerosas enfermeras de la Cruz Roja fueron desplegadas para prestar servicios en el extranjero en diferentes lugares. Hoy día, en el conflicto ucraniano, el compromiso continúa, ya que la Cruz Roja Americana ha enviado personal capacitado a Europa para apoyar las necesidades de comunicación de emergencia de los miembros del ejército, para que puedan mantenerse en contacto con sus familiares en casa. Así como tenemos personal movilizado en diferentes partes del mundo, también tenemos un fuerte compromiso con nuestros miembros del servicio y veteranos en Puerto Rico. Estamos agradecidos de poder ofrecer nuestros servicios desde una oficina dentro de las instalaciones de Ft. Buchanan.
SER PARTE DEL SERVICIO VOLUNTARIO
Muchos familiares de soldados que han fallecido en conflicto pueden ayudar a otras familias de militares necesitados a través de la Cruz Roja Americana. El Capítulo de Puerto Rico cuenta con muchos voluntarios veteranos que brindan apoyan a su comunidad. Su experiencia militar pasada agrega valor a la labor humanitaria que brindan a las familias de militares y veteranos actuales. Nuestros voluntarios veteranos entienden las luchas y los desafíos que enfrentan hoy en día y proveen consuelo y cuidado en cada caso que manejan.
