Crash Course Calls (CCC) are a monthly conference call series hosted by the National Youth Council. These calls are intended to inform youth about national opportunities (scholarships, programs, applications), provide resources to run a successful club and allow youth leaders across the organization to share best practices.
This is a great opportunity for youth Red Cross leaders, and we encourage you to attend our next call!

Below are some testimonials from Red Cross youth leaders across the country who have tuned into one of our Crash Course Calls this year:
“Crash Course Calls allowed me to collaborate with other club leaders. We have the chance to discuss what methods work and which ones don’t. We work together to come up with solutions to common problems. After attending the calls, I have so many project ideas to implement in my own club. Through this program I have gained access to a nation-wide network of club leaders to help make my club successful!”
– Arrshia Kumar, New Jersey Region Field Ambassador
“I always think that getting another perspective is a really great way to promote personal development. Crash Course Calls are a great way to hear from both leaders and other volunteers like yourself from all around the nation. For me specifically, I remember joining in my first Crash Course Call thinking that I would only be hearing about service ideas that I already knew of. Coming out of the call, however, I realized that I was very wrong. I found out about things like Raid Cross and various fundraising ideas that my region typically didn’t involve themselves with just because no one knew about them (which was a really great thing for us as we started to implement more of these ideas). Some examples are publicity in-school days (where all club members wear their Red Cross Gear), locker stickers, and having teachers spread the word (I think these were the most helpful for awareness and recruitment).
– Pranay Gundam, North Texas Region Field Ambassaor, Plano West Senior High Red Cross Club Co-President
“The Crash Course Calls held by the Red Cross have truly expanded my ability to lead and reform Red Cross activities within my region. From sharing ideas with volunteers across the nation to receiving new initiatives from the National Youth Council, by attending Crash Course Calls you are sure to grow your club. Due to a Crash Course Call that I recently attended, I have begun implementing several new ideas such as Remind101, the Youth Diversity Pledge, and more. We also began entering our hours every month as an entire club in the computer lab due to a volunteer’s suggestion! This has been very helpful for ensuring all hours have been entered every month. Overall, my experience with the Crash Course Calls has been phenomenal and I fully recommend any volunteer seeking greater involvement to join in and attend one.”
– Liz Radway, Cincinnati-Dayton Region Field Ambassador, LDC counselor, and a founding member of Indian Hill Red Cross Club.
“For the past five years, I have worked with the Red Cross through volunteering and I have always loved helping out wherever I can. I have completed over 250 hours of service but the experience I gained was absolutely priceless. I have found that all the Crash Course Calls were efficient and shared valuable information to help us run our clubs smoothly. Each person in the call was diligent, engaged, and focused throughout the call. Personally, I learned so much about the economics of how a Red Cross club works. Thank you so much!”
– Blake Kinney, Gold Country Region Field Ambassador
“Joining in on a Crash Course Call really opened my eyes to all that is going on in our nation regarding Red Cross clubs. In the call, it seemed as if we were all joined together around one core purpose: to better our community. Specifically, in the Crash Course Call regarding scholarships, fundraising and member retention, I took away new skills and ideas that I have never thought of myself. This Crash Course encouraged me to work on implementing these new ideas at my own school, such as adding worldwide awareness slides (highlighting different regions affected by measles, etc) to our meetings in order to help add depth and purpose to the service of our members.”
– Paige Munsey, Southwest Washington Red Cross Youth Council Member
“Since I begin participating in the Crash Course, I really did not know what to expect, but I have learned so much. I have learned about fundraising, how to recruit new members, how to stabilize membership and keep volunteers motivated. I hope these calls never stop because the clubs are learning so much.”
– Gwendolyn Hilliard, Southwest-Caribbean Louisiana Region Youth Advisor
