SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, July 18, 2024 – The American Red Cross, Antis Roofing and 95.5 KLOS are joining together to rock Southern California’s airwaves and help patients in need of blood transfusions with the 43rd Annual 95.5 KLOS Blood Drive. The 95.5 KLOS community is invited to roll up a sleeve on Friday, August 2 and Saturday, August 3 at 32 blood donation locations throughout Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura Counties.
“For more than four decades, 95.5 KLOS listeners have shown up in amazing ways to save lives by donating blood,” said Jay Winkenbach, regional donor services executive with the American Red Cross in Los Angeles. “This summer, we’ve seen hospitals receiving donations faster than donors are coming in. Let’s turn the tide together. If you are in good health, consider taking the time to schedule a donation today. Your small act can create a massive impact.”

Helping Saving lives for 43 years
Volunteer blood donors have helped make this annual summer event a great success since 1981. With the help of thousands of Southern California blood donors, the 95.5 KLOS Blood Drive has collected nearly 200,000 units of blood products over the last four decades to help hospital patients of all ages. Accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, mothers experiencing difficulty during childbirth and those battling cancer are a few examples of hospital patients that depend on the generosity of blood donors to receive blood products.
“KLOS listeners know how to Rock - but when it comes to something important like giving blood to the Red Cross in order to help save lives, they're always the first in line,” Pio Ferro, KLOS VP of Programming for Meruelo Media said. “For 43 years, KLOS blood donors have found that nothing compares to the heartfelt joy we get from giving back to our community. Seeing our loyal KLOS listeners turning up for our annual blood drive makes us happier than we can say. Helping save lives thanks to KLOS listeners and the Red Cross is one of our favorite moments of the year.”

About blood donation
To donate blood, individuals need to bring a blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification that are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also must meet certain height and weight requirements.
Blood and platelet donors can save time at their next donation by using RapidPass® to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, before arriving at the blood drive. To get started, follow the instructions at RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass or use the Blood Donor App.
