Annapolis, MD — The American Red Cross of Southern Maryland has named its all-volunteer Chapter Board of Directors for 2021-2022.
Lynn Mason of Firstrust Bank in Annapolis has been named the Board Chair following a life-time of service to the community and the Red Cross. Previously Mason, a 25-year veteran of the treasury management and commercial lending industry, has volunteered with the Anne Arundle Department of Aging and served as vice chair of the Red Cross of Southern Maryland board.
“I feel honored to work side-by-side with Lynn,” said Karine Sewell, Executive Director for the Red Cross of Southern Maryland. “I’m particularly excited about her passion for helping hospital patients in need as a regular Red Cross blood donor.”
As part of the National Capital & Greater Chesapeake Region, the Southern Maryland Chapter provides life-saving services in Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Prince George’s and St. Mary’s counties that include supplying hospitals with lifesaving blood, emergency disaster relief to local families and emotional and financial support to military families. In the last 12-months, the Red Cross of Southern Maryland helped families and individuals after more than 240 local emergenices – mostly home fires.
For more than a year, Karine Sewell has led the Southern Maryland Red Cross, as the Chapter Executive. With an external focus on core mission delivery, she is also the Maryland State Government Relations Representative and co-chair of the National Capital & Greater Chesapeake Region’s Diversity & Inclusion Task Team. A graduate of Howard University, prior to leading the Southern Maryland Red Cross, Karine served as Executive Director for the Red Cross of Montgomery and Prince George’s counties for seven years.
“Now is the time to make service a priority; and I’m thrilled for the chance to lead our local Red Cross board,” said Lynn Mason. “I think giving back is especially important as our Red Cross team continues a commitment to lifesaving service delivery amid the current global pandemic.”
Mason, who has served a total of five years on the Red Cross board and recently reached her goal of donating 5-gallons of lifesaving blood, replaced former board chair, Richard Tait, of Kaizen Approach, Inc. Tait’s term ended in June of 2021 and he will continue on, as a member of the board.
