[WEST PALM BEACH, FL, MAY 31, 2024] – With forecasters predicting this year's storm season to be 160% more active than an average year, Good Greek Moving and Storage will match donations to the American Red Cross up to $50,000. The funds will ensure local Red Cross volunteers are ready to help wherever or whenever needed during what potentially could be an unprecedented storm season.
"The Red Cross could not fulfill its lifesaving mission without the support of partners like Good Greek Moving and Storage and the generosity of donors. With this match challenge, your donation will automatically be doubled to increase the impact of every dollar. Funds raised will help provide the assistance needed for families directly impacted by a storm and help them find a path to recovery after a disaster. With the extreme weather we expect, every contribution will make a tremendous difference," said Eric Roby, executive director for the Palm Beach and Treasure Coast Chapter.
Donations made online here will be doubled automatically, thanks to the generosity of Good Greek Moving and Storage. In addition to preparing volunteers to respond to storms that may impact the South Florida region, local Red Cross volunteers are also preparing to deploy around the country to help impacted communities when needed.
Hurricane season officially starts tomorrow, June 1. The Tropical Weather and Climate Research Team at Colorado State University predicts a 62% probability of a major hurricane (category three and above) making landfall along the U.S. coastline. Record ocean temperatures in the tropical Atlantic, where hurricanes form, are already abnormally warm, with average sea surface temperatures about 1.25 degrees higher than normal.
"The Red Cross has made the needed preparations for what could be a devastating storm season. Our volunteers have already packed their go-bags to deploy at a moment's notice. We now need to raise more funds to ensure we can help as many families as possible," said Roby.
