MIAMI-DADE & BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. (March 28, 2024) – In honor of Red Cross Month and Giving Day, establishments and institutions across downtown Miami, the Brickell area and Hollywood lit up in hues of vibrant red to support the American Red Cross this March.
The South Florida Red Cross coordinated the initiative with participating organizations, including the Royal Caribbean Terminal at PortMiami, Norwegian Cruise Line Terminal at PortMiami, PortMiami, One Biscayne Tower, Perez Art Museum Miami, Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science, Freedom Tower at Miami Dade College, Miami Tower, One Downtown / SunTrust International Center, Paramount World Center, Kaseya Center and the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood.
By lighting up in red, these supporters paid tribute to the Red Cross and honored the organization's humanitarian mission and community volunteer heroes.
"We are deeply grateful to all the organizations who have illuminated their buildings and institutions in red to honor Red Cross Month," said Krista Coletti, regional chief executive officer for the South Florida Red Cross. "Their support shines as a beacon of hope, highlighting the spirit of compassion which defines the Red Cross mission of alleviating suffering in the face of emergencies."
During Red Cross Month, volunteers are recognized and honored for providing hope and relief to families when help can't wait during disasters. They are the true heroes of the Red Cross, comprising 90% of the workforce.
More than 80 years ago, March was first proclaimed Red Cross Month in 1943 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to raise awareness of the organization and its humanitarian mission. Today, we continue to celebrate this month by asking everyone to be there for our communities when they need us most.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED Red Cross volunteers stand by thousands of families every year, providing resources and emotional support to help people recover after disasters, both big and small. This year, our volunteers have provided families with the support they need during local emergencies like home fires. Visit redcross.org/volunteertoday to become a local hero.
