LAS VEGAS (March 31, 2022) — The Red Cross of Southern Nevada this week presented disaster preparedness training at the Consulate of Mexico in Las Vegas, continuing the partnership to aid Mexican and Latino residents throughout the state.
"We are very proud and thankful for our partnership with the American Red Cross, which will help us better prepare and serve Mexicans and Latinos residing in Nevada and all across the United States,” said Julian Escutia, Consul of Mexico in Las Vegas. “The training we received helps us achieve that goal.”
The partnership between the Red Cross of Southern Nevada and the Mexican Consulate was designed to better assist Nevada’s Mexican and Latino communities during emergency situations and disaster recovery, and to educate residents about the importance of giving blood.
Red Cross staff and volunteers this week at the Consulate of Mexico in Las Vegas presented the program, Be Red Cross Ready, which teaches how to prepare for disasters in order to weather them safely.
“The training presented this week illustrates the Red Cross and Consul of Mexico’s commitment to making disaster prevention and preparedness a priority for underserved communities in Las Vegas,” said Rachel Flanigan, Executive Director of the American Red Cross of Southern Nevada. “Helping people during disasters is at the heart of our mission and getting the information to everyone in our community is a priority.”
The Red Cross is committed to serving at-risk Latino communities in Las Vegas and throughout Nevada, not just with preparedness training, but also by encouraging people to volunteer in their communities and learn life-saving skills.
