LAS VEGAS (Aug. 17, 2024) – On this National Nonprofit Day, Saturday, August 17, the American Red Cross of Southern Nevada is calling attention to the invaluable contributions of all nonprofits across our state. In Nevada and throughout the nation, charitable and philanthropic organizations work tirelessly, often with limited resources, to support those in need and tackle society’s most challenging issues.
This year, the American Red Cross of Southern Nevada is praising the ongoing efforts by Red Cross volunteers to respond to home fires in our community. So far in 2024, local Red Cross Disaster Action Team members have responded to more than 300 home fires and helped almost 900 people recover from those disasters by providing safe housing, and funding for necessities like clothing, food and medication.
“Red Cross volunteers stand ready to help their community members no matter when a tragedy strikes,” said Rachel Flanigan, Executive Director of the Southern Nevada Chapter of the American Red Cross. “Our on-the-ground team members are able to provide the emotional and financial help a family might need because of generous donations. We humbly thank those donors for their help and their generosity.”
The Red Cross recognizes the importance of partnerships with other local nonprofit organizations to amplify the impact to the community. On National Nonprofit Day, Flanigan invites all Nevadans to join her in acknowledging the selfless individuals who volunteer and work for charitable groups, making lasting changes in our community. “Nonprofit organizations enrich and improve all aspects of the quality of life in our community,” she added.
About National Nonprofit Day
National Nonprofit Day, established in 2017 and celebrated on August 17, coincides with the date of the signing of the Tariff Act of 1894, which authorized exemptions for nonprofit corporations and charitable institutions. It’s a day to recognize the contributions of nonprofit staff and volunteers while highlighting the importance of supporting their efforts through donations, volunteering or any other form of assistance.
