[GREENWICH, CT, JANUARY 14, 2026] The American Red Cross Metro New York North Chapter today announced that registration for Safety Town 2026 is now open.
Safety Town is a comprehensive, one-week safety education program offered every summer that teaches awareness and accident prevention skills to local children entering kindergarten or first grade in the fall. Children learn from experts through fun and interactive activities.
“Each year, dozens of children graduate from Safety Town after spending time with their community helpers and learning simple safety tips they can use at school and at home. They leave feeling confident and excited — ready to practice what they’ve learned and share it with their families and friends. This program not only helps build a better‑prepared community, it gives our youngest neighbors a chance to learn, grow, and have a whole lot of fun along the way,” said Stephanie Dunn Ashley, CEO, American Red Cross Metro New York North Chapter.
Under guidance of Red Cross instructors, police officers, firefighters, EMS and other community helpers, children learn in an indoor classroom setting as well as on a specially designed kid-sized “Safety Town” village layout.
Children are also fitted with their own bike safety helmet that they use for the week and then take home to keep. They ride pedal-powered "cars", walk and “shop” through the town complete with buildings, crosswalks, sidewalks, and street markings. Additionally, participants will tour a real-life ambulance, fire truck and police car.
Daily lessons are followed up with take-home handouts and additional reference information for parents and caregivers. At the end of each week of training, the graduates each received a Safety Town diploma.
The 2026 sessions will be held at the Cohen Eastern Greenwich Civic Center in Greenwich, Connecticut during the week of June 15-19. Families can choose to participate in a morning session from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or an afternoon session from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
