For firsthand examples of the importance of CPR/AED training, look no further than our Central Ohio Chapter. After hearing powerful stories of how lives were saved in the community because of this lifesaving training, chapter board members decided to take action and take the training themselves.
A six-year-old child at Worthington Pools was pulled from the water after a drowning incident. Trained staff members immediately sprang into action, putting their CPR skills to work until the child could receive further medical care. Their quick response helped save a young life.
Another lifesaving moment unfolded at Victoria's Secret when a business visitor suffered a heart attack. Employees trained in CPR responded without hesitation, providing critical care in those first crucial moments before emergency responders arrived.
Just six weeks after completing Red Cross CPR training, Emily Savers found herself facing an unimaginable situation at home. As she and her husband sat down for dinner, he suddenly went into cardiac arrest. The skills she had recently learned were no longer part of a classroom exercise. They became the tools she used to save the life of the person she loved most.
“Hearing the stories of people whose lives were saved because someone was trained and prepared had a profound impact on our board members,” said Karen Washbush, Central Ohio Chapter Executive Director. “It reminded us that CPR is more than a certification. It's the ability to make a difference when someone’s life is in jeopardy.”
Inspired by the examples of everyday people stepping forward in moments of crisis, six Central Ohio Board members chose to strengthen their own preparedness by completing Red Cross CPR training in the weeks that followed.
Reflecting on the training, board member Matt Eichmann emphasized why preparedness matters. "I love when teams come together to train, learn and actually practice skills that matter because great leadership isn't just about meetings and metrics, it's about showing up when it counts. Seconds matter. Preparation matters. People matter."
Whether responding to a drowning victim, assisting someone experiencing a heart attack, or helping a loved one at home, the knowledge and confidence gained through CPR training can empower ordinary people to do extraordinary things when it matters most. Sign up for your lifesaving class here.
