After years of dedicated service, both in uniform and as an American Red Cross volunteer, Paul McEnery is retiring from his role at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Medical Center.
As a retired Air Force veteran, McEnery carried over a deep sense of duty and leadership to his role with the American Red Cross. He first joined the Red Cross in 2019. McEnery’s son had asked him to help out at a food bank event at the Veterans Affairs Hospital. While he was there, he struck up a conversation with Red Cross Volunteers. He learned about the volunteer work being done by disaster response teams and decided to sign up. McEnery responded to disasters for more than a year before a new opportunity came knocking.
The Red Cross needed someone with security clearance and network access to lead a team to support armed service members and their families through the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Medical Center. He took over a team of about 20 Volunteers in 2021. His work focused on matching volunteers with their best roles, getting them connected to the right departments, and overseeing their onboarding. More volunteers started to join the ranks and filled a growing number of roles. Today, the team consists of more than 50 people filling various roles. In recognition of his exceptional commitment, McEnery was awarded the President’s Volunteer Service Award in January.
As McEnery steps back to enjoy retirement, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for his years of leadership, service, and compassion.
Congratulations Paul!
