The holidays are a wonderful time to get everyone together. Unfortunately, they can also mean a greater risk of a fire in someone’s home. This holiday season, the American Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania Region encourages everyone to follow simple steps to prevent home fires from holiday decorations.
“December is the peak time for home fires involving candles and holiday decorations,” said regional CEO for the American Red Cross in Southeastern Pennsylvania. “Help protect your family by using battery-operated candles and practicing your two-minute escape plan with everyone in your household.”

Smoke alarms save lives. Install a smoke alarm on each level of your home, near sleeping areas, and inside bedrooms. Use the test button to check it each month. Replace all batteries at least once a year. If you cannot afford to purchase smoke alarms or are physically unable to install one, the Red Cross can help. Visit redcross.org/philly or call 215-299-4029 for more information.
HOME FIRE CAMPAIGN SAVE LIVES
Since October 2014, the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign, working with community partners, has saved at least 1,928 lives by educating families about fire safety, helping them create escape plans and installing free smoke alarms in high-risk areas across the country.
