SPANISH FORK, Utah (Nov. 29, 2024) — Spanish Fork police officers and firefighters are inviting the community to donate blood, cast their votes and support a lifesaving cause at the town’s fourth annual American Red Cross Battle of the Badges Blood Drive. The friendly competition between first responders is on Monday, Dec. 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Veteran’s Memorial Building. There’s still time to schedule an appointment to donate blood and make a difference.
Benjamin Donner, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Central and Southern Utah Chapter, shared the significance of the event, stating, “Blood donation is a caring act that can significantly impact someone’s life. Spanish Fork first responders are going above and beyond their call of duty by rallying the community to contribute. We encourage everyone to join us in making a lifesaving difference.”
Encouraging Community Support with Friendly Rivalry
The Battle of the Badges blood drive is a fun way to foster community spirit while supporting a critical cause. Donors can show their support for their favorite team — the Spanish Fork Police or Fire Department — by casting their vote after donating. The team with the most votes will be crowned the winner of the Spanish Fork 2024 Battle of the Badges.
“Firefighters are in the business of saving lives and donating blood is one of the quickest and easiest ways we can help people,” said Spanish Fork Fire Chief Eddie Hales. “Whether the fire department or police department wins the Battle of the Badges this year, the real winners are the patients who receive these lifesaving donations.”
Donner emphasized the importance of blood donations, especially in emergencies, adding, “Our firefighters and police officers witness firsthand the critical need for a reliable blood supply. We urge the community to join us in saving lives by participating in this blood drive.”
Scheduling Your Donation
Residents are encouraged to schedule a donation appointment prior to their arrival at the Battle of the Badges Blood Drive. Appointments can be made through the Red Cross Blood Donor App, by visiting redcrossblood.org, or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) and using sponsor code: Spanish Fork.
“Police officers are sworn to protect and serve, and donating blood is yet another way we fulfill that promise to our community,” said Spanish Fork Chief of Police Matt Johnson. “We invite all residents to roll up their sleeves and donate. While the Battle of the Badges is a fun competition, every donation truly saves lives.”
