MOUNT VERNON (November 28, 2023) — This Wednesday, November 29 at 5:00 p.m. the American Red Cross serving Northwest Washington will present a total of seven awards to community members who took quick action in the face of emergencies, and one award to the local instructor who played a role in teaching each recipient the skills used to save a life. The presentation will take place at the Skagit Valley Family YMCA.
“I am proud of our team,” says CEO Dean Snider. “This year, we have seen multiple examples of our staff displaying the knowledge, courage, and power to act on their training and save lives. I am grateful for each individual who showed up to make an impact.”
From a water-save inside their own facility, to a choking rescue, performing CPR on a stranger in their neighborhood, and jumping into action after a car crash - the types of aid provided reflect the diversity of skills taught in Red Cross Lifesaving classes. Each one deserving of a National Red Cross Lifesaving Award.
The National Lifesaving Awards is a program dating back to 1911 that provides recognition to individuals or teams, with or without Red Cross training, who either save or sustain a life. The program consists of three awards, the Certificate of Merit, the Lifesaving Award for Professional Responders, and the Certificate of Extraordinary Personal Action.
“There is no question these individuals and the YMCA are making our community a safer place to live,” said Tatyana Kiselyov, Training Services Representative for the American Red Cross. “Here we have multiple examples of how the partnership between our organization’s is literally saving lives. Each individual is to be commended for their willingness to help others in distress, and the YMCA for fostering a culture of empowerment in our community.”
We hope you will join us this Wednesday to celebrate a lifesaving partnership and the individuals putting their lifesaving skills into action in our community.
