February 28, 2023: The American Red Cross is proud to announce we are the recipient of a $20,000 grant award from The Wildhorse Foundation to support our Home Fire Campaign. Funds will help support community members who have experienced a home fire with immediate rehousing and food needs, as well as support for medical and mental health assistance during their recovery process.
Over 100 times every year, a family in our local community faces the devasting impacts of a disaster, most often a home fire.
The Red Cross is the only nonprofit response organization that mobilizes within hours of the crisis to help those impacted. We are committed to ensuring that these victims have the support they need.
In 2022, the Central and Southeastern Washington chapter responded to 171 home fires and provided $168,985 in financial support. This critical work is made possible through partners and financial donors like Wildhorse Foundation. Michele Roth, Executive Director for the Red Cross serving Central and Southeastern Washington said, “We are grateful for this generous gift from the Wildhorse Foundation. Experiencing a home fire is a difficult and dark moment. Their support helps ensure that the Red Cross will be there when our community members need us most.”
Home fires claim seven lives every day in the U.S. — but having working smoke alarms can cut the risk of death by half. In addition to providing financial relief for victims, the Home Fire Campaign helps prepare families by installing free smoke alarms and helping to create escape plans. Since launching the campaign in 2014, we have helped save more than 1,500 lives across the country.
