LOS ANGELES, October 25 — The American Red Cross Los Angeles Region is proud to announce it has been selected to receive the 2017 Susan Hassmiller Nursing Award at the American Red Cross National Leadership Awards ceremony this evening in Washington D.C. The $5,000 grant will be use to grow the collaborative partnership with the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) – Los Angeles, a national network of volunteers, organized locally to improve the health and safety of the community. Susan Hassmiller will present the award to Jarrett Barrios CEO of the American Red Cross Los Angeles Region.
“I’m honored to receive this award on behalf of the American Red Cross Los Angeles Region,” said Jarrett Barrios, CEO American Red Cross Los Angeles Region. “This grant will allow us to recruit and engage new Red Cross volunteers and increase nurse engagement across all lines of service with a focus on increasing diversity and inclusion.”
The Susan Hassmiller Nursing Award enhances Red Cross local service delivery capacity through the increased engagement of nurses in policy, leadership and service delivery positions.
Also, being presented is the prestigious Harriman Award for Distinguished Volunteer Service to Brentwood resident and NFL Steelers part-owner Larry Paul. This is the highest national award from the American Red Cross which recognizes a volunteer who has provided extraordinary service extending to people and places beyond the local community. Mr Paul’s involvement with the American Red Cross spans 18 years and includes volunteer service at the chapter, regional and national levels.
