The Home Fire Campaign helps save lives by installing free smoke alarms in homes that don't have them, and by educating people about home fire safety.
Do You Need a Smoke Alarm?
If you cannot afford to purchase smoke alarms or are physically unable to install a smoke alarm, the Red Cross may be able to help. Questions? Call the Sound the Alarm hotline: (213) 793-5114
As the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic grows, the American Red Cross continues to work closely with public health officials to deliver our lifesaving mission where and when it’s safe to do so. To protect everyone’s safety, we have postponed all Sound the Alarm events, home fire safety visits and preparedness presentations until further notice.
Our top priority is protecting the people we serve and our volunteers, and we made this decision following the latest Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines to avoid gathering in groups unless essential.
For specific steps you can take to protect yourself and your family during the coronavirus 2019 pandemic, visit our coronavirus safety hub.
Just one day of your life can change someone else’s forever.
Home fires claim seven lives every day but having working smoke alarms can cut the risk of death by half. The American Red Cross helps reduce home fire deaths and injuries through Sound the Alarm. Save a Life. This series of home fire safety and smoke alarm installation events takes place throughout the year. Sound the Alarm is a critical part of our Home Fire Campaign that was launched in 2014.
During Sound the Alarm events, we:
Install free smoke alarms
Share safety information in at-risk communities, and
Fundraise to help families prepare for, respond to, and recover from home fires.
How You Can Get Involved
