LOS ANGELES (July 26, 2022) – The American Red Cross and 95.5 KLOS are joining together to rock Southern California’s airwaves and help patients in need of blood transfusions with the 41st Annual 95.5 KLOS Blood Drive. The 95.5 KLOS community is invited to roll up a sleeve on Friday, August 5, and Saturday, August 6 at 15 blood donation locations throughout Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and Ventura Counties.
“For forty years, generous 95.5 KLOS listeners have answered the call to give blood during a critical need time when the blood supply declines,” said Christine Fleming, Biomedical Services District Manager, Red Cross Los Angeles. “Right now, the Red Cross and 95.5 KLOS are urging healthy individuals to schedule a time to share their good health. An appointment made could be a life saved.”

Helping Saving lives for 41 years
Volunteer blood donors have helped make this annual summer event a great success since 1981. With the help of thousands of southern California blood donors, the 95.5 KLOS Blood Drive has collected nearly 200,000 units of blood products over the last four decades to help hospital patients of all ages. Accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, mothers experiencing difficulty during childbirth and those battling cancer are a few examples of hospital patients that depend on the generosity of blood donors to receive blood products.
Donation appointments can be made by downloading the free Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or enabling the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device and using sponsor code: KLOS. Appointments are recommended.
About blood donation
To donate blood, individuals need to bring a blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification that are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also must meet certain height and weight requirements.
Donors can also save up to 15 minutes at the blood drive by completing a RapidPass®. With RapidPass®, donors complete the pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of donation, from a mobile device or computer. To complete a RapidPass®, follow the instructions at RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass or use the Red Cross Blood Donor App.
Blood drive safety
The Red Cross follows a high standard of safety and infection control. The Red Cross will continue to socially distance wherever possible at blood drives, donation centers and facilities. While donors are no longer required to wear a face mask, individuals may choose to continue to wear a mask for any reason. The Red Cross will also adhere to more stringent face mask requirements per state and/or local guidance, or at the request of blood drive sponsors. Donors are asked to schedule an appointment prior to arriving at a drive.
