LOS ANGELES, NOVEMBER 16, 2018 – The Los Angeles Chargers donated $250,000 to the American Red Cross Thursday to help provide around-the-clock shelter, food and comfort to thousands of people impacted by the California Wildfires.

This funding enables the Red Cross to send disaster workers and supplies to the affected areas to help shelter, feed and comfort people who have been impacted by the Woolsey and Hill wildfires. As evacuation orders are lifted, many more people are expected to return to their homes and need help for an extended time.

“It’s been absolutely heartbreaking to watch the destruction these fires have inflicted on our local community,” said A.G. Spanos, President of Business Operations for the Los Angeles Chargers. “Forcing more than a quarter million residents to evacuate and seek safety and shelter elsewhere, this disaster has seen hundreds of families lose their homes and have their lives turned upside down.  The Chargers are proud to partner with the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, health services and immediate support to Angelenos with nowhere else to turn in the face of this widespread devastation.”

The Red Cross previously recognized the generosity of the Chargers organization earlier this year as the Humanitarian Organization of the Year for their support of 2017 wildfire relief. The Chargers have also supported the mission of the American Red Cross in Los Angeles by helping install smoke alarms at a Sound  the Alarm, Save a Life event in East LA last spring as well as promoting blood donations through the Missing Types campaign last summer.

Generous donations from corporate partners allow the Red Cross to work alongside community and government partners to continue to provide comfort at evacuation shelters across California and deliver relief and cleanup items to help people get back on their feet.
