LOS ANGELES, Feb. 15, 2021 — American Red Cross Los Angeles Region volunteers from the Western Los Angeles Chapter responded to an apartment fire impacting seven families in South Los Angeles.

Early Monday morning, volunteers from the Red Cross Disaster Action Team (DAT) coordinated emergency aid for seven families, which included financial assistance for lodging and food. Due to COVID-19, DAT members adhere to all CDC and DPH guidelines and virtually contact those who are affected and in need of help.

Every day, people are forced from their homes due to fires, storms and other disasters. Single- and multi-family fires account for 90 percent of all disaster responses. Trained and available DAT volunteers are ready to respond to these emergencies, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. From offering a caring and compassionate ear, to meeting any immediate needs for shelter or supplies, to connecting people with long term recovery services, our volunteers ensure that families do not have to face tough times alone.

Red Cross volunteers have been trained to maintain social distancing and follow proper safety procedures to continue serving communities impacted by local disasters, during the coronavirus outbreak.
