A Leader, a Friend, a Brother
For his mother, Brie Kim Longo, Dante’s legacy shines brightest in how he treated others. “He was always everyone’s best friend. His spirit was indomitable, his humor unforgettable. On the field, he was a leader; off the field, he was someone who made everyone feel special.”
Friendships forged in childhood carried through to this day. Cory Prenatt, a lifelong friend, donated blood at the event and reflected on their bond. “We didn’t even like each other at first,” he laughed, “but life kept bringing us back together. Dante was genuine, reliable, and always had something funny to say. Being around him made you feel like the best version of yourself.”
An Overwhelming Success
By the end of the day, the drive exceeded all expectations. The Red Cross projected 25 units, but thanks to the dedication of the community and Dante’s loved ones, 36 units of blood were collected—144% of the goal—with 31 donors stepping forward. Some donors even gave Power Reds, which allows you to safely donate two units of red blood cells during one donation, providing double the impact.
A Legacy of Strength and Service
The blood drive underscored a powerful truth: one person’s legacy can ripple outward to touch countless lives. Through the Longo Strong Foundation, Dante’s family continues to promote fitness, mental resilience, and community wellness. The annual blood drive ensures that even in his absence, Dante remains a source of hope.
“Your donation gives families life to their loved ones,” his mother reminded. “Dante’s full recovery after his accident was possible because of blood donors. We share his story to inspire others to help—because helping others was who Dante was.”
As donors left the hotel that Sunday afternoon, many carried with them not just a Red Cross bandage but a renewed sense of connection. They came to honor Dante, but they also left having given life. In the words of his family and friends, Dante’s existence keeps impacting people’s lives—and will for generations to come.
