By David Foust, American Red Cross volunteer
In April, Rosanna Pilapil volunteered for the first time as a Blood Donor Ambassador at the American Red Cross Blood Drive hosted by the Fairfield Inn and Suites in Menifee, California. Although a new volunteer for the Red Cross, Rosanna is no stranger to our mission. Rosanna, who was born in the Dominican Republic, was a volunteer and an employee of the Dominican Red Cross (Cruz Roja Dominicana) for over 12-years, working in disaster relief and community education on health issues as a paramedic and then as a medical doctor. After marrying in January 2021, Rosanna and her husband Mars, (who holds dual American/Philippine citizenship) moved to Riverside County in July of 2021 with his parents until they can get settled. Because of her love of service and the mission of the Red Cross, Rosanna sought out opportunities to volunteer with the American Red Cross and found an opportunity with the Biomedical Team as a Blood Donor Ambassador. She said this is a wonderful opportunity to stay connected to the medical field while she studies English and prepares for her medical examinations to become a licensed physician in the United States.
As a Blood Donor Ambassador volunteer, you will engage donors by greeting, registering, answering questions, providing information, and supporting them through the recovery process at the refreshments table. The special attention you would provide helps create a favorable impression that encourages ongoing donor support.
