SAN DIEGO (February 22, 2024) – The American Red Cross Southern California Region has announced the appointment of Daniel Beighley, Sergeant Major, United States Marine Corps (Ret.) as the new Director of Service to the Armed Forces/International Services for the region, which serves San Diego, Imperial, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties.
Beighley will lead the region’s Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces and International Services departments in providing Red Cross assistance to service members, veterans and their families as well as families seeking reunification assistance and more through Red Cross International Services.
“As a veteran, I am thrilled to continue serving my country with the American Red Cross,” says Beighley. “I look forward to leading our excellent team as we provide vital programs and services to military members, veterans, and their families and caretakers.”
Each year, the Red Cross assists more than 240,000 military and veteran families by
leveraging a network of volunteers across the country and around the world. From their first day of enlistment, service members are eligible for Red Cross assistance. This may include the Hero Care Network, which allows military families to stay in touch with their loved ones and access 24/7 emergency communications support during emergencies; free mind-body and resiliency workshops; care and comfort provided by medical and non-medical Red Cross volunteers at veteran hospitals and military treatment facilities; the “Get To Know Us Before You Need Us” program, which enables enlistees and their families to learn about Red Cross services before, during and after deployment, and more.
“The Red Cross has an honorable legacy of serving our armed forces,” says Beighley. “It’s a legacy I’m proud to now be a part of.”
Beighley will also lead the region’s International Services efforts. By reconnecting families separated by crises, helping to rebuild communities devastated by disasters, or working alongside health organizations to eliminate global disease, Red Cross International Services provides relief in all corners of the globe.
Beighley comes to the Red Cross as a highly decorated Marine Corps leader after completing 26 years of service. His operational experience includes key assignments at Engineer Maintenance Company in Camp Pendleton, California; 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit Service Support Group in Camp Pendleton, California; 3rd Special Operations Training Group in Okinawa, Japan; 1st Force Reconnaissance Company in Camp Pendleton, California; 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion in Camp Pendleton, California; Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Pacific in Coronado, California; 3rd Intelligence Battalion in Okinawa, Japan; Marine Security Company at Camp David, Maryland; Marine Recruiting Station Orange County in Santa Ana, California, and Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 232 in Miramar, California.
Beighley’s deployments have been marked by significant contributions, including Operation Southern Watch aboard the USS Denver (LPD 9), where he engaged in humanitarian operations in East Timor. He also served on two Global War on Terrorism rotations with Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force-Afghanistan, actively supporting combat and village stability operations in Afghanistan.
His awards include three Meritorious Service Medals, three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, the Army Commendation Medal, four Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals (one with a combat valor device), and the combat action ribbon. He is also authorized to wear the Presidential Service Badge and Navy and Marine Corps Parachutist insignia.
