When disaster strikes, the quiet heroes behind the scenes make all the difference. At the American Red Cross of South Florida, our Shelter Heroes campaign calls on everyday people to step up and serve their communities in times of crisis.
These volunteers are the heartbeat of relief efforts; managing dormitories, welcoming guests, coordinating meals, and offering comfort when it’s needed most. With just a few hours of training, anyone can help turn uncertainty into safety and compassion into action.
Why volunteer? Because your time becomes someone else’s safety net. Because you can be the friendly face in the hardest moment of someone’s life. Because when the world feels heavy, your presence reminds others that they’re not alone.
