West Palm Beach, Fla. (Nov. 05, 2019) — The Palm Beach & Martin Counties Chapter of the American Red Cross will host its 62nd International Red Cross Ball on Friday, March 20, 2020 at The Breakers in Palm Beach.
This memorable evening will “Salute to the Military,” in honor of the historical partnership between the American Red Cross and the U.S. Armed Forces since the days of the Civil War.
This year’s Ball will honor retired U.S. Army Lieutenant General Russel L. Honoré and pay special tribute to the service men, women and families in our community.
In his 37 years of active service with the U.S. Army, General Honoré has received numerous awards and recognitions for his bravery and knowledge. He served in a variety of command and staff positions which focused on Defense Support to Civil Authorities and Homeland Defense. From 1999 to 2005, he supported the Department of Defense planning for several devastating hurricanes and led the Department of Defense response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana.
In addition, General Honoré planned and supported the U.S. military response to the devastating flooding which swept Venezuela in 1999 and Mozambique in 2000. After many years of service, General Honoré continues to speak and consult nationally on building a culture of preparedness.
On March 20, hundreds of guests will gather to support the humanitarian mission of the Red Cross, recognize heroes who served the country and honor Gold Star Mothers, who lost sons or daughters in service.
“This event raises critical funds for services in the community – from disaster relief after a hurricane or home fire to emergency communications assisting military members serving abroad,” said Jennifer Durrant, executive director of the Palm Beach & Martin Counties Chapter. “It is only through the generous commitment of our supporters that the Red Cross can continue its mission of preventing and alleviating human suffering in the face of emergencies.”
The Red Cross serves two million military personnel as well as our veterans. Every day, the Red Cross provides 24/7 global emergency communication services and support in military and veteran health care facilities across the country and around the world. In addition, the Red Cross helps families cope with deployments and supports returning combat veterans as they reintegrate into the community.
Last year, the International Red Cross Ball helped expand these services across the South Florida region through the generosity of donors. Proceeds from this year’s Ball will continue to benefit Red Cross services and programs for military members, veterans and their families.
