LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY, March 19, 2026 - WLKY is partnering with the Red Cross to encourage blood donations at the 6th Annual Seth’s Squad blood drive. This drive offers the public an opportunity to help maintain the blood supply and provide lifesaving support to patients in need during Red Cross Month in March.
At 11 years old, Seth Walsh has had over 225 blood transfusions. Seth was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in December of 2018. The Mount Washington community has rallied around the Walsh family to offer comfort, support, and financial donations towards his treatment.
On Tuesday, March 24, 2026, the 6th annual “Rise of The Donor” blood drive in honor of Seth will take place at St. Francis Xavier Church, 155 Stringer Lane, Mount Washington, KY from 11am-5pm. The last five blood drives have seen wonderful success, collecting more than 250 blood donations, with local doctors, firefighters, and officials taking time to roll up a sleeve.
Seth has recently celebrated 4 years of remission and is thriving. He is a member of the Bellarmine Men’s Basketball team through “Team Impact”- a national non-profit organization that matches children facing serious illnesses with college athletic teams. The Make A Wish Foundation granted his wish to have a backyard swimming pool. He loves Star Wars characters, watching WWE, playing basketball and video games, and spending time with his Bernedoodles, Dr. Pepper and Stormy. You can keep up with Seth’s journey by following the Seth’s Squad Facebook Page.
The Walsh family encourages all community members to donate blood and give back to kids like Seth. You can make an appointment by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS, downloading the Blood Donor App, or going to redcrossblood.org and entering keyword: sethssquad. All presenting donors will receive free A1C testing on successful blood, platelet and plasma donations made March 1-31, 2026 (one result in 2026). Those who come to give blood, platelets or plasma March 1-31, 2026, will also receive a $15 Amazon Gift Card by email. Details on both offers can be found at RedCrossBlood.org/March.
