American Red Cross volunteer Leroy Harris delivers recovery supplies to Tom Addington in the hard-hit Sunshine Hills subdivision in London, after an EF-4 tornado caused significant destruction on May 15.
Addington, an Airforce veteran and a 26-year employee of the National Weather Service had never experienced anything like this. “I've tracked storms like this, but I've never experienced a tornado," he says. "It blew the bathroom window out and sent glass through five rooms,” Addington says. Then it blew the bathroom door shut and then it blew the bathroom door off.”
Despite the damage to their home, Addington and his wife have been able to continue living in it since the tornado struck, but they've also been grateful for the Red Cross and others: “It's been unbelievable how many people have helped us.”
