BRONX, NY - The American Red Cross in Greater New York continues to support families after a partial building collapse on Billingsley Terrace in the Bronx on Monday, December 11, 2023, displaced nearly 200 people.
The night of the collapse, Red Cross responders supported residents at a reception center at the nearby PS 396. On Tuesday, New York City Emergency Management established a service center at Bronx Community College. There, Red Cross logistics, mass care, casework, disaster mental health, and health services team members have continued to support residents. As of December 14, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., the Red Cross Greater New York has provided 51 households (175 people) with emergency assistance, including emergency lodging assistance, meals, and other resources to meet immediate needs.
Red Cross caseworkers and other team members will continue to work with impacted residents to connect with government and nonprofit partner resources to assist with recovery. Affected residents will also be able to access disaster health and disaster mental health services from trained Red Cross workers.
