On Wednesday, October 10, 2018, the American Red Cross in Greater New York will host its 2018 American Red Cross Gala: Heroes Among Us at the Ziegfeld Ballroom from 6:00 pm to 10:00pm.
Master of Ceremonies Mike Tirico, Host and Play-by Play Announcer, NBC Sports Group, will lead an inspiring evening that will feature a special music performance by Gavin DeGraw. Don Callahan and Elizabeth McCaul, American Red Cross Greater New York Board Members, and their spouses, Lisa Callahan and Frank Ingrassia, are co-hosts for the event.
Honorees for the evening include:
Macy’s Inc. Macy’s Inc. will receive the Corporate Leadership Award in recognition of its philanthropic and community work as well as their partnership with the Red Cross to support communities impacted by epic natural disasters. Accepting the award will be Dennis Witte, Macy’s Executive Vice President, Regional Director of Stores.
Hearst. Hearst will receive the Humanitarian Award for its commitment to humanitarian relief, demonstrated through media coverage and fundraising. Hearst recognizes that disasters of every scale take a terrible toll locally, and that recovery is a national, and often international, responsibility. Accepting the award will be Steven Swartz, President and CEO.
IBM. IBM will receive the Centennial Partnership Award, which recognizes companies who have shared a 100-year partnership with the American Red Cross. With its first recorded contribution to the Red Cross in 1918, IBM and Red Cross have grown together to be preeminent organizations dedicated to serving their communities.
Army Pfc. Emmanuel Mensah. The American Red Cross Local Hero Award, presented by Wells Fargo, will be awarded posthumously to Army Pfc. Emmanuel Mensah. In December 2017, Pfc. Mensah was visiting his family in the Bronx, NY, when a fire broke out. As the blaze raged out of control, Pfc. Mensah ran in and out of the apartment building to lead several neighbors to safety. Pfc. Mensah will be honored for his heroic actions and service.
In addition, the evening will take a moment to provide Special Recognition to American Red Cross supporters of the historic 2017 Hurricane Season.
