The Greater New York Red Cross realizes that New Yorkers face an unprecedented number of natural and human-caused disasters and emergencies each year. Our Preparedness Education programs provide neighborhood groups, community agencies and businesses with disaster preparedness presentations, materials and workshops.
We help increase public awareness by helping the community prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.
The American Red Cross Greater New York Region operates the largest and busiest disaster-response program in the nation, providing assistance, compassion and comfort to more than 12,000 New Yorkers affected by approximately 2,300 emergencies—home fires, building collapses, floods and more—each year.
Blood transfusions help save lives—and a constant supply of fresh blood is always needed. By supporting drives to collect and distribute blood, the American Red Cross Greater New York Region serves as the bridge between generous blood donors and thousands of patients who need blood transfusions to survive an illness or accident.
The Greater New York Red Cross offers training classes for individuals, groups and corporations, enabling them to respond to disasters and life-threatening emergencies with practical skills and confidence. The classes include: CPR/AED (Adult, Child, Infant), First Aid, Aquatics and Caregiving.
The American Red Cross Greater New York Region, in partnership with the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, offers worldwide tracing services for family members whose lines of communication have been broken as a result of armed conflict, natural disaster or vulnerabilities such as age or ill health.
