SALT LAKE CITY (Aug. 25, 2025) — Snoopy and the gang are back to inspire lifesaving kindness! In honor of the 75th anniversary of PEANUTS, the American Red Cross is partnering with the beloved PEANUTS characters to celebrate and thank blood donors in a special way.
From Aug. 29 to Sept. 21, 2025, those who come to give blood will receive an exclusive Red Cross x PEANUTS mystery bag containing one of four limited-edition T-shirt designs, while supplies last. Each shirt showcases an iconic PEANUTS character—but here’s the twist: donors won’t know which one they’ve received until they open the bag.
Adding to the excitement, a limited number of mystery bags nationwide will include a golden ticket. Lucky donors who find a golden ticket can redeem it online to collect all four T-shirt designs. Full details are available at RedCrossBlood.org/Peanuts.
“The spirit of caring for one another is at the heart of both the Red Cross mission and the PEANUTS legacy,” said Heidi Ruster, Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross Utah/Nevada Region. “This partnership is a fun yet meaningful way to honor that shared spirit while inspiring lifesaving blood donations.”
Seasonal and Weather Challenges Strain the Blood Supply
While the PEANUTS collaboration brings excitement, the ongoing need for blood donations remains urgent. Late summer often poses unique challenges—shifting routines, busy schedules and travel can make it harder for people to donate. Severe weather and hurricanes can also disrupt blood drives, further straining the blood supply.
Between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025, weather-related disruptions led to the cancellation of approximately 1,500 blood drives nationwide, resulting in more than 40,000 uncollected donations. Donors of all blood types, particularly Type O positive and B negative, are urgently needed to help ensure patients receive the lifesaving care they need. Type O positive is the most transfused blood type, compatible with 85% of patients, while Type O negative is the universal blood type used in emergencies. Type B negative is rare, found in less than 2% of the population, and patients with B negative blood can only receive transfusions from B negative or O negative donors.
How to Donate and Receive a Mystery Bag
Donating is easy. Appointments can be made by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting redcross.org/GiveBlood or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
The Red Cross provides approximately 40% of the nation’s blood supply, supporting more than 2,500 hospitals and transfusion centers. To meet patient needs, the Red Cross must collect about 12,500 blood donations and 3,000 platelet donations every day. In Utah, nearly 45 hospitals rely on the Red Cross for their blood supply.
