MILLCREEK, Utah (July 25, 2025) — The American Red Cross of Utah has stepped in to provide critical support to the 79 residents displaced by a massive fire at the Willow Glen Apartments in Millcreek on Friday. The fire, which destroyed two apartment buildings and damaged 24 additional units, has left dozens of families without homes.
In response, the Red Cross has opened a temporary evacuation center at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 1250 East 4800 South in Millcreek. The evacuation center is providing displaced residents with essential services, including snacks, water, prescription medication replacement, eyeglass and medical equipment replacement, and ensuring they have a safe place to stay. Additionally, mental health and spiritual care services are available to help residents navigate this challenging time.
“When disaster strikes, Red Cross volunteers are ready to step in and provide help where it’s needed most,” said Matt Stevens, American Red Cross of Utah Regional Disaster Officer. “Our volunteers immediately answered the call to assist those affected by this devastating fire. We are committed to providing immediate relief and ongoing support to help these residents recover and rebuild their lives.”
Devastating Fire
The fire, believed to have been sparked by someone mowing a nearby property, quickly spread to two buildings at the Willow Glen Apartments near 1300 East and 4800 South. More than 100 firefighters worked to control the blaze and evacuate the apartment buildings, according to fire officials.
The Red Cross of Utah is continuing to assist residents and will be at the evacuation center at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to provide additional support. Anyone affected by the fire can also call the American Red Cross at any time at 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
The Red Cross partnered with Salt Lake County Emergency Management, Millcreek Emergency Management, Unified Fire Authority and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to support the residents displaced by the fire.

Become a Red Cross Volunteer Today
All emergency sheltering efforts are supported by trained Red Cross disaster volunteers, many of whom are members of the local community. After initial training, Red Cross disaster volunteers are prepared to respond to local emergencies, such as assisting those displaced by home fires or wildfires. With experience and additional training, volunteers can also deploy to major emergencies or disasters in Utah and across the country.
