SALT LAKE CITY (Oct. 1, 2025) — The American Red Cross of Utah is announcing a special one-day event for platelet donors to add to their PEANUTS® x Red Cross collection. On Thursday, Oct. 2, only, platelet donors at Red Cross donation centers in Salt Lake, Lehi and Layton will receive a surprise commemorative gift: an officially licensed PEANUTS x Red Cross pin by Pintrill®.
This exclusive giveaway offers a perfect opportunity for donors to complement the popular collection of PEANUTS x Red Cross merchandise. The surprise pin giveaway follows a successful mystery bag campaign that featured one of four limited-edition T-shirt designs. Additionally, platelet donors still have time to receive a one-of-a-kind Snoopy hoodie when they give at a donation center through Oct. 5.
“This one-day Snoopy pin giveaway is a fun way to thank our dedicated platelet donors, who are essential to helping patients battling cancer and other serious diseases,” said Benjamin Donner, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Central and Southern Utah Chapter. “We invite Utahns to continue building their PEANUTS collection while performing a truly lifesaving act.”
What to Expect When Donating Platelets
For those who recently donated blood and received a PEANUTS T-shirt, there’s good news: donors only need to wait seven days before they are eligible to donate platelets and be rewarded with the surprise PEANUTS x Red Cross pin by Pintrill, available while supplies last. Platelet donors who give by Oct. 5, 2025, will also receive the exclusive Snoopy hoodie, available while supplies last. First-time platelet donors who give by Nov. 30 will also receive a $40 e-gift card. For more details, visit redcrossblood.org/giveplatelets.
Platelet donations are especially critical because they have a short shelf life of just five to seven days and must be constantly replenished. Unlike whole blood donations, platelet donation (known as apheresis) involves separating platelets from the blood and returning the remaining components to the donor. The process takes about two hours during which donors can relax, watch a movie or read a book. Platelets can be donated every seven days, up to 24 times a year.
Utah Donation Centers Open Late on Oct. 2 for Exclusive Snoopy Pin Giveaway
Red Cross Blood Donation Centers in Salt Lake City, Lehi and Layton will be open on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2025, with extended hours until at least 6 p.m., making it convenient for Utahns to participate in the exclusive Snoopy pin giveaway.
