Providence, Utah (January 8, 2026) — The American Red Cross of Utah, in partnership with the Hutchinson family, is inviting members of the public to donate blood in honor of Xylie at a memorial blood drive on Friday, Jan. 9, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Providence, Utah.
Xylie Hutchinson, a 14-year-old Hyrum native, died on Nov. 22, 2025, after sustaining injuries from a car crash. Xylie received over 20 units of blood after the accident, with eight of them occurring during an emergency transfusion on the flight to the hospital from the accident.
“After the accident, Xylie received more than 20 units of blood. This is something only possible because of the kindness and generosity of blood donors,” said Kassaundra Hutchinson, Xylie’s mother. “If you are available on Friday, January 9, we would love to have your support at the blood drive.”
Schedule Your Blood Donation in Xylie’s Honor
Donating blood can make all the difference to people recovering from traumatic events. Donors can schedule an appointment through the Red Cross Blood Donor App, by visiting redcross.org/GiveBlood or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). Use sponsor code XylieHutchinson to donate at Friday’s drive in memory of Xylie.
Blood Donations Are Critical for Trauma Patients
Patients undergoing treatment after traumatic events often depend on blood and platelet transfusions to quickly resupply their body with needed blood products. This gives medical personnel more time to identify and treat injuries and infections in their patients. For many hospitals, trauma events can deplete the blood supply as a person can require up to 100 units of blood during recovery.
“Trauma patients can require large amounts of blood products, potentially wiping out the hospital’s supply,” said Michael Smauldon, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Northern Utah Chapter. “Blood drives like this give us the opportunity to ensure that blood products remain on the shelf and available for emergency situations.”
