There’s a Red Cross volunteer opportunity to fit your interests and your time
Become a Disaster Action Team volunteer
Local volunteers are needed to join the Disaster Action Team in Eastern Utah to help residents during times of emergency in Roosevelt, Vernal, and the surrounding areas.
“Disaster Action Team volunteers help their communities prepare for and avert disasters,” said Heidi Ruster, Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross Utah/Nevada Region. “They help families with immediate needs after a home fire or other emergency and offer support during difficult times,” she explained. “We need Duchesne and Uintah County residents to join this specialized Red Cross team and help us respond when neighbors are in need.”
After initial training, volunteers can take shifts that may include responding to emergencies within two hours, night or day, rain or shine, either on the scene or coordinating remotely to provide immediate support, according to Ruster. “With experience and further training, volunteers can take on leadership and response coordination roles to have a wider impact and be eligible for deployment to large scale emergencies/disasters in Utah and other parts of the country,” she said.
Roosevelt resident and volunteer Haydee Tapia has been in Florida for the past two weeks helping in Red Cross shelters. “It is heartbreaking to see such need. I am just glad that I was able to help and provide a safe place for them to stay,” she said.
Just as disasters happen every day, the need for blood is constant. The Red Cross is also recruiting for critical volunteers to support our work to ensure hospital patients have access to safe, lifesaving blood.
Become a Blood Donor Ambassador volunteer
Help ensure patients have access to safe, lifesaving blood. Blood donor ambassadors check in blood donors to their appointments, answer questions, and give out post donation snacks.
