CLEARFIELD, Utah (March 15, 2025) — The American Red Cross of Utah and North Davis Fire District, joined by dedicated volunteers, will come together on Saturday, March 29, to install more than 500 free smoke alarms in Clearfield homes. The “Sound the Alarm” campaign equips residents with critical fire safety tools and knowledge that could one day save lives.
Starting at 9 a.m. on March 29, over 150 volunteers and firefighters will gather at North Davis Fire Station 42, located at 88 East Center Street, Clearfield, before heading into nearby neighborhoods to install smoke alarms and provide fire safety education.
“Our goal is to save lives,” said Michael Smauldon, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Northern Utah Chapter. “Having working smoke alarms reduces the risk of fire fatalities by half. That’s why we are committed to ensuring every home in Clearfield is equipped with this lifesaving protection.”
Empowering Communities with Fire Safety
The Red Cross of Utah partners with fire departments and other organizations to reduce home fire risks by offering free smoke alarm installations and fire safety education. Last year, volunteers installed more than 1,250 smoke alarms across the state and provided families with essential fire safety knowledge.
“We’re not only installing free smoke alarms but also equipping families with the tools and information they need to evacuate safely during a fire,” Smauldon said. “Many people don’t realize they only have about two minutes to escape a home fire, or that smoke alarms need to be replaced every 10 years.”
Residents can schedule free smoke alarm installations and fire safety consultations at SoundTheAlarm.org/Utah. During these visits, Red Cross volunteers and community partners share valuable advice on fire prevention, evacuation plans and creating an emergency plan that includes all members of the household, including pets.
Supporting Utah Families Affected by Home Fires
This year, Red Cross of Utah staff and volunteers have already responded to nearly 40 house fires, helping about 100 people by offering immediate assistance, including emotional support, financial aid and recovery information. Last year, our team supported almost 800 residents affected by over 150 home fires.
