SALT LAKE CITY (Jan. 28, 2023) — The American Red Cross of Utah is accepting applications for its 2023 Summer Leadership Development Camp for high school students, June 26-30. The five-day overnight camp is designed to train and empower future humanitarian leaders throughout Utah.
Red Cross Leadership Development Camp is in its 13th year and will bring together 80 Utah high school students at Camp Pinecliff near Coalville. For five days, these young Utahns build confidence and cultivate core leadership skills, such as teamwork, public speaking, and diversity/cultural understanding. These skills can be applied on school campuses and later in life.
The Red Cross is invested in training the next generation of compassionate, community leaders, giving them the development tools, they will need. “We understand the importance of nurturing strong, capable individuals to guide businesses, organizations, and governments” said Heidi Ruster, Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross Utah/Nevada Region. “That's why we are committed to providing young people with the resources they need to become tomorrow's leaders.”

The overnight camp is for local students currently in the 9th, 10th, or 11th grade or the home school equivalent. The cost of the non-profit camp is $300 and includes cabin lodging at Camp Pinecliff, meals, and materials. A reduced rate is available for those who qualify.
Throughout the week, Red Cross youth volunteers and staff members will hold sessions and activities that reinforce individual and team leadership skills. “Students should return from the conference stronger and better equipped to embrace the diversity of those around them,” Ruster said. “Participants also form friendships that can last a lifetime; and moreover, they should have skills that can help them become leaders who make a difference in their schools and communities.”
