SALT LAKE CITY (Jan. 22, 2025) — The clock is ticking for an unforgettable opportunity. From now until Sunday, Jan. 26, anyone who donates blood will be entered into a drawing for the ultimate fan experience—a trip for two to the Super Bowl in New Orleans.
Blood donations are especially vital during the winter months, when seasonal challenges such as severe weather and illnesses can lead to reduced supplies. Hospitals and patients across the country rely on the generosity of donors to ensure essential treatments remain available. Each donation contributes directly to saving lives and supporting those in urgent medical need during this critical time of year.
“Blood donors give selflessly, providing a lifeline to patients in need without expecting anything in return,” said Jeremiah Lafranca, Executive Director of the American Red Cross of Utah Greater Salt Lake Chapter. “We are excited to join forces with the NFL to reward this generosity by offering one lucky donor the unforgettable experience of attending the Super Bowl. This partnership allows us to show our appreciation for the individuals who help save lives every day.”
Super Bowl Sweepstakes
For the sixth year, the Red Cross and the National Football League (NFL) are partnering in January for National Blood Donor Month to invite football fans and blood donors to join our lifesaving team and make a difference for patients in need.
Donors who give blood between Jan. 1-26, 2025, will automatically be entered to win a trip for two to Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans. The prize includes tickets to in-stadium pre-game activities on game day, access to the official Super Bowl Experience, round-trip airfare, three-night hotel accommodations (February 7-10, 2025), and a $1,000 gift card for expenses. For full details and eligibility information, visit RedCrossBlood.org/SuperBowl.
All who come to give Jan. 27-Feb. 28, 2025, will get a $15 e-gift card to a merchant of choice. See RedCrossBlood.org/Flurry for details.
Donors can easily find a nearby blood drive or donation center and schedule an appointment using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, by visiting redcrossblood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
Challenges Facing Blood Supply
The beginning of the year is one of the most difficult periods for collecting blood donations. Severe winter weather often leads to widespread blood drive cancellations, affecting the ability to maintain a steady blood supply. Meanwhile, an active cold and flu season prevents many people from donating as they recover from illness.
The nation is currently facing a critical strain on its blood supply. Severe winter storms across parts of the country in the first three weeks of the year led to the cancellation of over 500 Red Cross blood drives, leaving more than 12,000 donations uncollected. In response, the Red Cross of Utah is calling on local residents to donate blood in the coming days to help ensure that patients in Utah and across the country have access to lifesaving blood supplies.
