Winter Storms Strain Blood Supply
The start of the year is one of the most challenging times for collecting blood donations. Severe winter weather often results in widespread blood drive cancellations, impacting the ability to maintain a steady blood supply. Additionally, an active cold and flu season prevents many from donating as they recover from illness.
The nation is currently facing a critical strain on its blood supply. Severe winter storms across parts of the country in the first three weeks of the year led to the cancellation of over 500 Red Cross blood drives, resulting in nearly 15,000 uncollected donations. In response, the Red Cross of Utah is urging residents to donate blood to help ensure that patients in Utah and across the country have access to lifesaving blood supplies.
