SALT LAKE CITY (Feb. 12, 2025) — This Valentine’s Day, show your love in the most meaningful way—by giving the gift of life! The American Red Cross of Utah invites couples, friends, and loved ones to celebrate together by donating blood at its Salt Lake, Lehi, and Layton donation centers on February 14.
Every day, the Red Cross needs to collect more than 12,000 blood donations and nearly 3,000 platelet donations to meet the need across the country. The American Red Cross strongly urges donors to give in February to help build up the blood supply after thousands of donations went uncollected last month. People of all blood types – especially those with type O negative blood – are encouraged to give so hospitals can meet the daily demand for lifesaving transfusions this winter.
“Valentine’s Day is about showing love, and what better way to do that than by helping others,” said Heidi Ruster, Red Cross CEO Utah/Nevada. “Donating blood with a loved one is a meaningful way to make a difference together, and every donation helps ensure hospitals have the supply they need.”
