SALT LAKE CITY (Nov. 11, 2025) — This Veterans Day, the American Red Cross of Utah proudly honors the courage, sacrifice and unwavering dedication of all veterans and active-duty service members. While we celebrate their service today, the Red Cross remains committed in its support of military communities every day of the year.
“Veterans exemplify courage, sacrifice and an enduring commitment to protecting our freedoms, and we are deeply grateful for their service,” said Heidi Ruster, Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross Utah/Nevada Region and U.S. Navy veteran. “We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to our Red Cross volunteers who support our military communities across Utah. Whether offering a comforting presence, connecting someone to vital resources or simply listening with compassion, their service brings comfort and hope to those who have given so much.”
Supporting Military Communities in Utah
From the moment a service member joins the military to life as a veteran, the Red Cross is there to provide a continuum of care and support. In Utah, over 420 Red Cross volunteers dedicated more than 5,800 hours last year to supporting military members, veterans and their families.
Through the Hero Care Network, the Red Cross ensures that military families and veterans have access to critical support, including:
“If you have a loved one deployed overseas and need to reach them during an emergency, the Red Cross is here to help,” said Ruster. “Our Hero Care Network ensures that urgent messages are delivered quickly and reliably, providing peace of mind to families and service members no matter where they are stationed.”
A Global and Local Commitment
The Red Cross maintains a presence on more than 380 military installations and deployment sites worldwide, providing in-person support to troops and their families. This global reach, combined with local efforts, ensures that military families and veterans in Utah receive compassionate, timely assistance whenever they need it.
Veterans often continue their legacy of service by volunteering with the Red Cross. In Utah, many veterans are counted among the organization’s dedicated volunteers, giving back to the community and supporting those who serve.
