WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (July 15, 2026) — The American Red Cross will host an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony to formally open its new Utah headquarters in West Valley City on Thursday, July 16. Community members are invited to tour the facility, meet Red Cross volunteers and staff and learn more about the organization’s work across the state.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will feature remarks from West Valley City Mayor Karen Lang; Heidi Ruster, Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross Utah/Nevada Region and Barbara Riddle, President/CEO of Chamber West. Red Cross volunteers and staff will be available throughout the open house to meet with visitors and answer questions.
“This new headquarters gives our staff and volunteers a place to work together while creating more opportunities to connect with the communities we serve,” said Heidi Ruster, chief executive officer of the American Red Cross Utah/Nevada Region. “We are proud to open the doors and show the public how the Red Cross prepares for emergencies, responds to disasters and supports people across Utah.”
Serving Communities Locally and Nationwide
At Thursday’s event, residents can meet Red Cross volunteers and staff, hear about their experiences and learn about local volunteer roles in disaster response, blood drives, support for military families and preparedness efforts in Utah.
Across the country, more than 325,000 Red Cross volunteers support blood drives, help active-duty military members and their families, teach lifesaving skills and provide food, shelter and comfort after disasters of all sizes. As disasters grow more frequent and more complex, the need for volunteers continues to rise. The Red Cross provides training and offers a range of roles for people with different interests and skill sets. To learn more, visit redcross.org/volunteer.
In Utah, Red Cross volunteers have responded to 1,095 home fires since 2020, helping 5,058 people with emergency assistance. In 2025 alone, volunteers responded to 154 home fires, assisted 728 people, installed more than 2,000 free smoke alarms and deployed to every major disaster response nationwide, contributing more than 10,000 hours. They also supported over 4,200 blood drives that collected more than 138,000 units of blood.
