Northwest Cities and Counties proclaim March is Red Cross Month

Join the annual Red Cross Month celebration by honoring community heroes and joining in their commitment to deliver support when help can’t wait 

MARCH 5, 2025 — Proclamations recognizing March as Red Cross Month are rolling in across Washington and North Idaho. In each community, local officials are honoring the compassion and dedication of people who serve communities through volunteerism with local Red Cross chapters.

These jurisdictions include the Washington cities of Lacey, Lakewood, Fife, Port Townsend, Shoreline, Bellingham, Everett, East Wenatchee and Pullman, plus Snohomish and Whatcom Counties. Red Cross Month is also being recognized in the cities of Post Falls and Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. 

During its annual Red Cross Month celebration, the Red Cross honors the people who deliver support when help can’t wait — including volunteers who comprise 90% of its national workforce, generous blood, platelet and financial donors, and other supporters who power its lifesaving mission. 

“Red Cross Month is a special time to recognize our neighbors who step up to care for each other,” said Megan Dulgar, Northwest Region CEO. “Throughout our region, these community heroes provide a beacon of hope in people’s darkest hours, whether it’s comforting a family after a disaster, donating vital blood for hospital patients, saving a life with skills like first aid and CPR, or supporting military and veteran families. Visit redcross.org to make a financial donation, schedule time to give blood, volunteer or take a class. Financial gifts made on March 26 will be part of our annual Giving Day to help people affected by disasters big and small across the country.

In addition, the Red Cross is expanding its health offerings to include free A1C testing (commonly used to screen for prediabetes and diabetes) on successful blood, platelet and plasma donations March 1-31. Visit RedCrossBlood.org/March for full details. 

DELIVERING SUPPORT WHEN HELP CAN’T WAIT Powered by 2,500 dedicated volunteers and generous donors in the last fiscal year, our Northwest Region:

• Responded to over 1,000 disasters, providing emergency assistance to nearly 1,800 households
• Collected almost 48,000 units of blood and blood products at over 1,500 blood drives.
• Provided more than 8,400 critical community services to members of the military, veterans and their families.
• Trained over 73,500 people in first aid, CPR/AED and water safety skills.
• Installed almost 5,000 free smoke alarms in over 1,700 homes serving 4,500 community members by making them safer from home fires.
