EVERETT, WA — The American Red Cross Northwest Region is proud to announce Alexander Newman has been named the new executive director of the Northwest Washington Chapter, which serves communities throughout Whatcom, Skagit, San Juan, Island and Snohomish counties. Newman brings experience with the Red Cross and other humanitarian organizations to this role.
“Alex brings hands-on experience and a deep commitment to our mission that I know will serve our community well,” said Megan Dulgar, CEO of the American Red Cross Northwest Region. “This is an incredible win for the Northwest region as we gain a new team member to oversee this critical Red Cross chapter.”
Newman comes to the Northwest Region after serving as a Red Cross disaster program manager in Southern California where he worked with volunteer teams and community partners to respond to rampant wildfires, multi-family fires, and a hurricane. He has been drawn to humanitarian service for years. Before joining the Red Cross, Newman worked with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) on Operation Allies Welcome, the multi-agency operation to resettle the refugees who fled Afghanistan in 2021. Prior to that, he worked with the United Nations and National Committee on American Foreign Policy.
“I believe we have a fundamental duty to one another as human beings to lend a hand to lift each other up when there is need in front of us,” Newman said.
As executive director of the Northwest Washington Chapter, Newman will carry out the Red Cross mission by developing and strengthening relationships throughout the chapter area, stewarding a sense of community and cohesiveness among staff and volunteers, and working with the chapter board of directors to continue successfully mobilizing the organization’s services and support.
Newman has plans to increase the size of the board outside of Snohomish County to ensure all communities are represented and the organization has the resources and knowledge to most effectively serve clients in all local corners of the chapter.
