MARCH 23, 2025 — The list of Western Washington cities proclaiming Red Cross Month hit an all-time high in 2026 with local officials recognizing the tremendous impact being made in their communities.
Red Cross month is a nationwide celebration to honor those who embody our humanitarian mission — including volunteers who comprise 90% of its national workforce (92% in Washington State). Through volunteering with local Red Cross chapters, they help people in need by responding to disasters, supporting blood collection, teaching lifesaving skills, and providing comfort and care in emergencies. These local heroes are also generous blood, platelet donors, financial donors, and supporters who power our lifesaving mission.

Whether or not you volunteer, all can celebrate Red Cross Month this March by visiting the local redcross.org page, signing up to volunteer, scheduling an appointment to donate blood, taking a class in lifesaving skills, or making a financial donation to keep this work going. Every contribution matters.
Red Cross Month culminates with Red Cross Giving Day, Wednesday, March 25. It’s an opportunity for people to come together and power our humanitarian work across the country. Donations can be made at redcross.org/GivingDay.
About Red Cross Month:
Red Cross Month began in 1943, when President Franklin D. Roosevelt first proclaimed March as a time for Americans to support the humanitarian mission of the Red Cross. Today, it remains an annual tradition recognizing the volunteers and donors who help communities prepare for and respond to emergencies across the country.
About the American Red Cross:
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides comfort to victims of disasters; supplies about 40% of the nation’s blood; teaches skills that save lives; distributes international humanitarian aid; and supports veterans, military members and their families. The Red Cross is a nonprofit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to deliver its mission.
